TINAG is death! or, How I learned to stop worrying and love the game

Ever since The Beast started it all, the TINAG philosophy has been a guiding principle for the fledgling ARG community. The seminal book on ARGs is even titled “This Is Not a Game.” Since it’s such an recurrent refrain, we accept it as an overriding principle without much critical thought, to our detriment. Realizing that TINAG doesn’t always work is the first step toward using it effectively.

PFF Postmortem

Now that enough time has passed for us to gain some perspective on the game (and ruminate on your comments in our survey), we’ve looked over Perfect Friends Forever and decided what worked, what didn’t, and what we’ll do differently next time. Overall, we’re quite happy with this episode. It went much more smoothly than OITC and hit most of the goals we set for it.

Without further ado, here are our thoughts on the second Cyphers adventure!

Studio Cypher, the Future, and You

Greetings, Agents and Wakeful Agents. This is Ian and not, as you may expect, Will. I’m the sound engineer and lead puzzle designer. If you had issues with any of the ghost’s puzzles in Perfect Friends Forever, you can blame me. But we’ll get to that later. It’s been a busy time at Studio Cypher, with a lot of changes on the horizon.

First and foremost is the undergoing redesign of the site (of which this blog is the first major change!), which will hopefully tighten up the navigation and make it easier to find what you’re looking for. If you have any comments or suggestions for us, leave a comment. We always love to hear from you.

As a sneak peek at the redesign, our new logo is beneath the fold.
